In morning, between 5-8 AM. They will wake you up when they are hungry.
In evening, between 5-7 PM. They will beg and lick when hungry.
Each dog gets 1/2 scoop of each food type.
1/2 from rolling bucket
1/2 from large bag
"Full scoope" is to lowest part of slanted edge.
Water
Use the unlabelled tea bottles next to kitchen sink.
Fill each bottle up to, but not including, neck of bottle.
Each dog gets 1 bottle of water per meal
Beware that Thor will drink as much water as you give him,
but will throw up if he drinks too much. That includes from outside!
Don't let his whines for more water break you, as he'll throw up and feel worse!
If it's hot and/or the dogs have done a lot of exercising, you can give them
AT MOST 1/2 bottle of water at lunch.
Potty Habits
The dogs will sit by the back door, or whine and paw at you and scramble
to the back door when you stand up, when they need to go outside.
Thor will try to find water to drink in the yard, especially around the
south side of the house. Be careful to not let him drink dirty water from
outside. Use a leash to limit his access if necessary.
Roxy often wants to go outside to watch for and bark at dogs in other yards
or people walking down the sidewalk. She can be very difficult to get inside.
Calling "Inside" or "Inside, Roxy" is the main way to get her back inside,
but if necessary, tell her "Treat. Inside.". As final result, you will just
need to walk out and drag her back in by her collar.
General Habits
Thor loves to carry his ball around. He'll sometimes take it outside.
That's ok, as long as he brings it back in. If he forgets, tell him
"Get your ball" and point to it or ask "Where's your ball?" and he'll
usually find it.
Thor will tend to lick or nibble at his skin. If possible, try to stop him
from doing so, as it can lead to raw or broken skin. Calling his name firmly,
clapping, snapping or telling him "Thor, no!" or "Thor, leave it!" will usually
work, but sometimes pulling his head away is necessary if he's dealing with
a particullarly intense itch.
Scratching with his back paws is not a problem, as it doesn't seem
to lead to raw or broken skin.
Roxy loves to be outside. If she's just lying in the grass or wandering
around, that's fine, but she usually wants to search for and bark at dogs
in other yards or people walking down the sidewalk. Feel free to not let her
outside if she went outside recently and/or you think she'll just stare or bark.
If she's barking, please try to get her inside so she doesn't bother our neighbors.
If she runs away and you can't catch her relatively easily, then let her be.
It's not worth your health or injury to stop her.
She will eventually come to the back door and bark to be let back in.
Sleeping
The dogs will gladly sleep with you, if you let them, but they are used to
sleeping in the living at night, so don't feel bad for not letting them sleep
in the bed with you, if you don't really want to.
Cleanup
If either of the dogs has an accident, please clean it up as soon as possible,
to prevent things soaking into the concrete below the carpet or tile
(e.g. through cracks). We're terribly sorry for the trouble, but sincerely
appreciate your help.
You can find cleaning supplies (carpet cleaner and brush or bleach spray)
in the lower cabinet of the dish display case in the dining area, specifically
the one closer to the kitchen.
